There are eight chapters to study. There is a quiz to do at the end of
each chapter. There are also case studies to read and quizes for each
of them, too. Some case studies are for CS/CE majors and other case
studies are for "other" engineering majors. If you are a CS/CE major,
please do those case studies marked in that way. Other students please
do the case studies marked "other".
In some chapters there are case studies not marked so they are
for everyone to do.
There is a final exam to do after you have finished all chapters
and quizes.
There is a paper due at the end of the class. This should be a topic
concerning an engineering ethics question. You may choose a topic
you are interested in. Some topics to consider are privacy, encryption,
copying music or software, effects of computer games, etc.
The paper should be about three pages.
You may work at your own pace but you should not wait until
the last week to do the course.
The following is a milestone schedule you could use to insure
that you get the course done.
sept 15 - chapters 1 and 2
sept 30 - chapters 3 and 4
oct 15 - chapters 5 and 6
oct 30 - chapters 7 and 8
nov 30 - paper done
email the paper to me by the end of dead week.
Your grade will be determined by the average of
quizzes to be given over each chapter,
you final exam
and a written report on a topic concerning ethical
behavior.
The written report should be 3-5 pages over a topic of interest to you
concerning an ethical question related to something in the course. You may email
me your report any time before the end of dead week. my email is
brazile@cs.unt.edu
I will have office hours TTH 1:30-3:30 pm. Come see me if you need to
talk in person.
